The MOF2H2 project was represented at the Nature Conference on Chemical Processes Towards Net-Zero Emissions, held from 19 to 21 September 2025, through an oral presentation delivered by Dr. Manoj Kumar Nallapaneni (AMIBM).
During the conference, Dr. Nallapaneni presented a talk entitled “Key considerations and strategies for safe and sustainable scale-up of MOF-based photocatalytic systems”. The presentation focused on the challenges and opportunities associated with scaling metal–organic framework (MOF) photocatalysts for on-site hydrogen production, with a particular emphasis on safety, sustainability and circularity.
The talk highlighted how the European Commission’s Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) framework can be integrated early in the development of MOF-based photocatalytic technologies. By embedding SSbD principles from the outset, researchers can better anticipate environmental, safety and resource-related impacts, and support the responsible scale-up of innovative hydrogen production systems.
The abstract of the contribution was accepted for oral presentation and published in the conference proceedings, reinforcing the visibility of MOF2H2 within the international research community working on net-zero chemical processes.
The Nature Conference on Chemical Processes Towards Net-Zero Emissions was organised by Tianjin University, Tianjin Normal University, Xinjiang University, the Haihe Laboratory of Sustainable Chemical Transformations, in collaboration with Nature Chemical Engineering, Nature Energy, Nature Catalysis and Nature Sustainability, and brought together leading experts to discuss pathways towards more sustainable chemical systems.
